Bedroom furniture

Need to get my teen girl new bedroom furniture. Checked out Ikea as I had Is set from them that lasted 20 years but I wasn't impressed (mainly because the drawers in the dressers didn't open fully) plus hubby doesn't really want to put it together. She does like the more modern look though.

So what is a step up from IKEA that we can see in person? I will not buy furniture online.

FYI she doesn't want used and wants a matching set (despite my eclectic house full of cast offs. Too much HGTV I think.).

TIA!

If you're looking to keep to a budget, you might try Bob's. https://www.mybobs.com/

I purchased a sofa and a dresser from Bob's. The sofa had to be thrown out after three years. Upon cutting it apart (WM's request for bulk pick up) we discovered that the arms were freaking cardboard. The support underneath that had snapped was fiberboard.

The dresser is holding up okay, but only because it is in our bedroom. It doesn't seem very well made either, but we needed a piece with a very shallow depth to fit an odd spot so that was the only reason we bought it.

Teens aren't has hard on furniture as toddlers, so you may have better results, but all in all I wouldn't recommend Bob's for anything other than a spare room that will see minimal usage.

Yes, Bob's is discount furniture, and the quality certainly isn't as high as full-priced furniture stores. We bought Bob's furniture for a beach condo six years ago, and it's been fine. But usage is not 365 days a year. If you want higher quality (and higher prices, of course) you might try Raymour and Flanigan (or possibly Huffman Koos). Suggest you shop around and compare. Also, don't hesitate to bargain. We recently bought some furniture for our primary residence, and we found that bargaining always helped at least a little.

Thanks! Bobs has online prices which look pretty good. Kid is going to hs this year so really only 4 years heavily use. She ruined her good quality "kid" furniture so I'm hesitant to get anything decent (she still isn't very careful with her stuff). And then I will probably have to buy her older sister furniture even though her kid set is fine...

Anyway good to have a place to start thanks!

if you wind up needing to buy something needing assembly I can help. No problem.

two recommendations.

When we moved in here we got the girls each a few pieces from American Woodline just off 22 (near where Charlie Browns used to be in Union.). I've recommended them in the past, and they often have free finishing promos. I don't remember the brand we bought off hand, but it's maple and pretty simple. We chose more classic knobs and pulls but he has more modern options. The larger chest (about 5 feet tall with 8 drawers and a shelving section with doors) was about $700 ten years ago. I've moved them from room to room and they've held up to a bit of abuse.

In our old house we bought some pieces from Berkshire, which was then on 22 but now they're on Springfield I think, past Home Depot, before you hit Morris Ave. They are a North Carolina direct merchant and the prices were really good for nice quality furniture. They can definitely make suggestions based on the style you're looking for and quality you need. We bought Lexington Brand (which sold out years later and now is sold through target, etc). It's been over 20 years and the dresser, nightables and chest we bought for our room are still in great condition and the baby dresser we bought with the changing table attachment still lives in my 14 year old's room as a large night table/dresser. No issues with the drawers at all and they see a lot of use.

great ideas, thanks!

I still have the same furniture I had when I was 2! The only thing new is the bed that was replaced 20 years later! There used to be places that specialize in 'teen' furniture, but I think the chain closed. Is this a young teen and will you be looking for it to carry her through the high school/college years? Or looking for adult furniture that could possibly be used beyond college?

I know people that have been happy with Raymour and Flanigan.

If this may only be short term (ie 5 years) before she grows out of the style and wants something more adult..cheap should be fine
I think Huffmans is the one advertising clearance sales so they can remodel...might have good bargains

I recently bought bedroom furniture from surplus furniture & mattress at factory direct prices. They have got bedroom packages. You can choose from sleigh beds, storage beds, padded headboards, slotted headboards, youth beds, bunk and so on. I bought sleigh bed. They have the prices also displayed. Take a look, if interested, do check their site for more details http://www.surplusfurniture.com/en/winnipeg/bedroom/bedroom-packages/1/. I cannot assure you how durable they are because I did the purchasing last month. But you can check for their reviews online if needed.

Thanks, however I don't want to buy furniture online.

I appreciate all the leads, now waiting on my bonus so we can do some shopping!

Gothic Cabinet Craft has several stores. We got furniture for our girls there. Generally, it is unfinished, so you have to put the stain (or paint) and top coat on. This saves money. The girls actually enjoyed doing the work. Prices are good, and quality is better than Ikea. Hand crafted stuff locally, priced well, imagine that.

If you end up with something that needs assembly and/or finishing, that is the type of work that I do. I also have van that can transport KD and smaller assembled pieces.
