Aurora TONIGHT?!?

We're in a G5 storm - Kp index of 9 possible. If it lasts until dark - and there are no clouds - look north! http://www.spaceweatherlive.com/

Please let the clouds part.

Thanks for the heads-up!

right now - but its light - so I want to cry.

Oh, dammit. Any chance it will last awhile? I finally have a great vantage point. Our bedroom windows look north, with almost nothing impeding the view all the way up to Canada (or Alaska or Russia, if Sarah Palin was visiting).

Peggy - keep an eye out!

Good show tonight in central Wisconsin.

Here's from last night - another show could happen Wed night.

@joy - beautiful picture! Where did you take it? The reservation?

This was from the great swamp. Any northern exposure away from cities will work.

what time (hour) did you take this?

I looked out a few times but didn't see anything. I will try harder tonight. Nice shots, Joy. What kind of exposure and timing did you use for that?

Taken around 10pm. Exp (guessing, not at my desk) 8 secs, f4, ISO 100

Wed night could be a maybe. Since its very faint, the camera sees it better than your eyes.

I shot this in Madison, Wisconsin last night at about 3am.

Just curious since I'm clueless about this stuff - Why was last night not supposed to be good, but tonight might be? Is it a different solar storm?
