AUDITIONS for The Strollers' "The Game's Afoot"

The Strollers, Maplewood's premiere community theater, announces AUDITIONS for "The Game's Afoot, or Holmes for the Holidays," the first production of our 2018-2019 season! 

DATES: August 27 and September 4 at 7:30-10 p.m. Callbacks (as needed): September 7 at 7:30-10 p.m.

Auditions will consist of readings from the script. Script sides will be provided. Sides may be viewed in advance on our website: www.thestrollers.org/auditions

Rehearsals will begin in mid-September and will generally be three times per week. Rehearsals will be every evening during Tech Week: Nov 4 – 8.

Performance dates: Nov 9, 10, 16, 17 at 8 pm, Nov 11 at 2 pm.

All auditions and performances will be held at the Burgdorff Center for the Performing Arts, 10 Durand Road, Maplewood, NJ

About the show: It’s December 1936, and Broadway star William Gillette, famous for playing Sherlock Holmes, emulates the famous sleuth as he tries to find a murderer among his glamorous dinner guests. Laughs and thrills abound in this wacky comedy-mystery by Ken Ludwig.

Character breakdown: (age ranges flexible)
William Gillette (male, 35 – 55): A handsome, charming, and witty actor/playwright who has achieved fame and wealth playing Sherlock Holmes on stage.
Martha Gillette (female, 70+): Gillette’s mother. Ditzy, but can fight back when provoked.
Felix Geisel (male, 40 – 50): A charming, middle-aged character actor, histrionic and arch. An old friend of Gillette’s, but a bit jealous of his success. Married to Madge.
Madge Geisel (female, 40 – 50): A flamboyant, middle-aged character actress with a smart-mouthed-gal-about-town demeanor. Married to Felix.
Simon Bright (male, 20-35): A young actor, sweet, enthusiastic, good-natured on the surface, but with a hidden dark side. Aggie’s boyfriend.
Aggie Wheeler (female, 20-30): A young actress, beautiful, bright-eyed, good-natured on the surface, but with a hidden dark side. Simon’s girlfriend.
Inspector Goring (female, 40 – 60): An eccentric British detective, wry and clever, but living in a world all her own.
Daria Chase (female, 30 - 50): A theater critic who is glamorous, seductive, and likeable despite her acid tongue.
