I really liked Ozark - it was discussed a bit in the What series should I watch next? thread - starting around here: https://maplewood.worldwebs.com/forums/discussion/what-series-should-i-watch-next?page=next&limit=810#discussion-replies-3362146
I watched it and didn't love it. I didn't think Bateman was well cast. I liked a lot of it but he seemed too preppy and reserved for the 'Walter White' role, as it were.
I thought the storylines broke down toward the end, full of details and plotlines that ran into dead ends. But I watched the whole thing, and I'd probably check out a second season. I loved the way Bateman played a thin veneer of pleasant over deep evil.

Not a very exciting teaser - but a 2nd season is in the works.
just finished watching the first season. Couldn't stop binge-Ing. Great acting all around with a well-paced edgy storyline.
I started watching based on recommendations from MOL, but I just couldn't get myself to care about the Bateman character. Maybe he was miscast. I'm sure I'll try again on a rainy Netflix and Chill day. But for now, I'm focusing on catching up on House of Cards (I know, I'm super late to this show).
I'm 4 episodes in. I like it. That "Little Robber Girl" character, Ruth, makes every scene she's in. I always like Jason Bateman. Laura Linney going to be good at being bad, I can already tell. I know nothing about the Ozarks, except I did watch and love "Winter's Bone." This show is making me want to go there. But I don't want to run into Tear Drop or let anyone put a hurt on me.
I just binge watched the whole thing. I thought it was great. Was a 2nd season announced? (off to google)
I happen to be a big Jason Bateman fan - dunno why, but I'll pretty much watch anything he's in.
I just looked it up. Season 2 is on the way.

So odd that some didn't like Bateman. What made his character interesting was that he is so unassuming -- until he starts talking. Marty is analytical, steady and a Plan A, B, C, etc thinker. Not comparing it to "Breaking Bad" because it isn't. It's not even a spin off to it. This is just about a family whose world blows up because of decisions made by a firm Marty worked for -- and of which Marty was aware of.
The mind blower to me was just how seamless the family gets on board with their new normal. It's a struggle, yes, but it's that or death. The writers got that right, IMO. We never know what we'd do when faced with horror and we can never say never.
I'm definitely a fan. Looking forward to Season 2.
Interesting trivia: The actress who plays Ruth also has a (smaller, very different) role in The Americans. Ozark really does give her a chance to shine. I thought she was great.

Over the summer a few people told me about this Netflix series starring Jason Bateman and Laura Linney. Finally decided to take a look at it and sooooo happy that I did. It's edgy, violent, sad, traumatic, and keeps me nervously watching. Have to say that I look forward to watching Bateman. He shocked me in a good way in "The Gift" and his performance in "Ozark" is Emmy worthy.
