Sounds like a better option than leaving it on the porch only to be stolen. .....Or, not delivered at all, which has been our experience with several packages sent to us via Lasership.
Fortunately thieves don't read MOL, so they will never catch on to this brilliant scheme.

It wouldn't be smart to do it on garbage collection day......
Or if you weren't home and the garbage was collected the next day.

Which town do you guys live in where the garbage company takes anything out of the can which isn't tied up in a white plastic garbage bag? Mine would consider anything in my can recycling and leave it behind
Maybe it's a commentary on the rampant consumerism in our culture. Like "what IS all this garbage you're burdening yourself with?"

Yeah.
I did it again, didn't I?
Does Maplewood's garbage service go to the back of your house to pick up the cans?

Where's that thread...?

Yeah.
I'm starting a Twitter feed called "***** ctrzaska says." Who knows? Maybe I'll get a book deal and a quickly-cancelled sitcom with William Shatner out of it.

A relative tips them very well at Christmas. As a result the garbage men have had things picked up with regular garbage that really should be put out for bulk pick up day.

Best thing about it is with five asterisks, no one knows what the bleeped out **** is.
I'm in SO and everything I put in or around my garbage cans is taken by the guys. They have even cleaned up a raccoon attack a couple of times. Had some issues years ago with pickup, discussed it with the driver and haven't had a problem since. We do tip at Christmas but I don't know if that's the reason. A package even close to the area we keep the cans would be gone on trash day.
Some funster put one of those coupon newspaper things that arrive unwanted in a bag on your lawn every Friday into our can 4 weeks ago.
Still there

Just a heads up. . .
Amazon has a delivery service and at least one of their delivery people is putting the packages in garbage cans. I received a notice on our front door that said "Package put in can." I looked in the garbage can in the back of our house and there it was. Our neighbor had the same thing happen to them.
Maybe its a hint! What did you order anyways

A lego advent calendar
I am perplexed why Amazon shipped it the way they did. . . we just chose the standard free Prime shipping. Perhaps Prime Shipping is now same-day garbage can delivery.

Did you report it to Amazon? That might not be their practice, but rather that of the delivery service (Lazership?)
Somehow a notice stuck to the front door telling you exactly where to find the package and taking you to the back of the house where you have more privacy to open the package and remove the contentsseems like a silly idea.

Most notes left on a door are to tell the homeowner the driver tried to deliver a package, but couldn't. I would think a thief riding around looking for packages to steal would assume that also and doubt they'll stop and read the note hoping it says something different.
Thats funny I "threw amazon in the garbage" or rather kicked them to the curb after over 60% of my prime deliveries were late, lost (resulting in them being late), or incorrectly picked. Maybe less time spent on "delivery by drone" and more on "get the package to the customer in the time frame they've paid for."

Yeah, except now we know the notes give exact location of the package

It still takes the ease out of grabbing a package off the front steps. I've not had a package go missing from my garage or back stairs.
