Abandoned car in Stop&Shop lot

A white Toyota with a Seton Hall parking sticker and a Massachusetts license has been at the far end of the Stop&Shop lot since the start of 2018.  I've  reported it through South Orange connect and the non-emergency South Orange police number.  It is still sitting there.  Thoughts?

If you've reported it, and it isn't on your property, I would let someone else handle it

Tell the Stop and Shop manager.  If they allow it to stay, its legal.  I would hope PD would at least run the plate and check it out make sure its not reported stolen or wanted in connection to any crime/missing person.

 This.

My experience with stuff like this is that big corporations hate dealing with. They envision towing the car and can getting sued. Or someone showing up in the store and making a scene. In their mind, it's simpler to leave it there. They're also not familiar with impound laws, etc..

Yeah, what he said.

They've stopped, but maybe they're still shopping?

Some people just forget where they parked.

Perhaps it is an employee's car?

If it is on private property and not on a public street or a public (town owned) parking lot then the police can't do a lot unless the landlord or tenant calls the police.

I keep thinking the owner is in the trunk.

Well, something similar did happen at a diner on Morris Ave a few years back...

The southern end of the lot might actually be in maplewood.

Yeah, wasn't it the Huck Finn diner? That's what made me think of it.

I googled the plate. It belonged to a guy named Hoffa..

Seriously though, someone should do a run on the out of state plates. Might be connected to a crime being investigated.

Thanks for the responses - I did not consider that the lot was private property or that towing it could be problematic for a corporation.  I would have thought that they would want to remove a car parked in the middle of the row, but that explains why they let it sit there through multiple snow storms this winter.  Now there's substantial amounts of accumulated debris under it.

I do wonder if it was abandoned or stolen.

The car is gone!  I wish I knew who removed it and when.  About a week ago, I finally did the logical thing and emailed the plate number and student parking permit number to Seton Hall.  Hopefully, someone has closure on their missing car.

LOL!  I noticed the same thing yesterday.  Oddly, there was another white car parked in its place when I drove by.  I had to do a double take.
