Runners are invited to register for the seventh Mayapple Trail Runs to be held on Saturday, May 21, 2016 in beautiful South Mountain Reservation in Essex County, N.J. Organized by the volunteers of the South Mountain Conservancy (SMC), with the support of the Essex County Department of Parks, Recreation and Cultural Affairs, the races provide an informal but supportive trail race environment for runners who are up to the challenge of completing 10 or 20-mile distances, or ultra-marathons of 50 or 100 kilometers (31 and 62 miles). Registrations will be accepted until Wednesday, May 18th; there are no race day registrations.
Each year the race has been more popular. In 2015, there were 116 runners, almost twice the number as the year before. All proceeds go to support the trail work, forest regeneration and other programs of the Conservancy. Not up to running a mere 10-miles and want to volunteer with the race? The race is possible through the great volunteers of the SMC and the ongoing support of Essex County, the US Track and Field Association, and the Sneaker Factory. The Sneaker Factory is offering 75 percent off a pair of running shoes for one registrant in each race along with their regular 20 percent discount for all runners.
