--- and then there's Murphy.

When the virus struck, Murphy was on it. Hard lockdown on almost everything. We were among the states with the lowest infection rates in the U.S. We may have been #1.

Now, he responds to pressure to open schools, school athletic events and so forth. Restrictions of restaurants, bars and retail are loosened. Even Pennsylvania shut down their casinos for a second time.

Did he respond to Republican talking point: "The cure is worse than the disease."?

Then the "S..tshow on vaccine distribution. Thousands of vaccines are being held in reserve for residents of senior homes. I know how to find those residents. They don't go anywhere. Give 'em the f...in' shots and get the show on the road.

I believe the distribution to nursing homes is being handled by the private sector, ie CVS and Walgreens...

Then, who delegated it to CVS and WalG?   And what criteria or research was done to verify that these companies had staff and planning to execute the distribution? Was it based on "Put me in, coach (our stockholders need the money)?

That was a plan offered by the Trump administration, but not required.   If Murphy decided that the plan sounded good and went along with it then he shares responsibility

West Virginia decided not to use CVS and Walgreens to administer the vaccine to nursing homes and they have nearly completed giving both the initial shot and the booster to their nursing home residents.

The entire state is hit hard with a second wave yet we’re still solidly in “stage 2” of reopening, which has been labeled “the road back.”  The road back to where?  Infection rates are through the roof and over 20,000 are dead.  And we have no idea of how many “recovered” COVID patients will have to deal with long term health issues.  But yeah, we’re on “the road back.”

I agree with JerseyJack, Murphy started the pandemic as a strong leader, but then buckled.

How can they have gotten the booster? Isn't there supposedly a four week interval? Was the vaccine available mid Dec?

Booster shots have been given to initial recipients, beginning about 2 weeks ago. Step daughter got her second shot on 1/11.

As I recall, some other states began administering first shots in late November.

 Three weeks, not four.

I believe the first shots actually started December 14th.  That New Jersey nursing home residents, a population at very high risk and pretty much easy to find since right now most nursing homes are in lock down, have their shots set aside for them waiting to be administered is a disgrace.  The vaccine was anticipated for awhile, yet when it was released in New Jersey on 12/14 the state was not ready to hit the ground running in terms of getting that extremely vulnerable population vaccinated.   Anyone who received the vaccine between 12/14 to 12/23 should have received the booster by now.  I’m guessing that 12/24 and 12/25 probably saw little to no vaccinations being given because of the holiday, but even accounting for the holiday that was still ten days where patients should have been vaccinated in time to have received the booster by today.

The federal government.

Pfizer is three weeks, Moderna is four weeks.

The federal government came up with the plan, but it wasn’t a requirement.  West Virginia decided it wasn’t the best plan and came up with their own.  As a result their most vulnerable population has now received the vaccines.

If the federal government had mandated it, then I would lay the blame at Trump’s feet.  But the CVS/Walgreens plan was required, just suggested.

If you look at the map, it's lower, less densely populated states that have gotten a higher percentage of shots in arms (and not by all that much):

But where the federal government established this plan and supported it, it's entirely reasonable for a state with a population such as NJ's to go with it so that it could work on vaccinating others.  WV has also vaccinated a much smaller number of folks over all.  They probably don't have as many health care professionals to vaccinate, have fewer than 10k nursing home residents (NJ has over 44k).  It's an apples to oranges comparison.  It would also help to know when each state received their doses and the notice each got before each delivery.

One reason WV decided not to go with the big chains is that they are not as dominant as they are here.

With the latest news from Norway about risk of death to vaccinating 80-plus year olds, maybe the NJ residents are not as “screwed” as it seemed...

A friend of mine just observed that if all nursing home workers got vaccinated, that alone goes a long long way towards protecting the residents.  They're not going anywhere.  They're basically locked in.

Why hasn’t the state stepped in to demand answers to why our nursing homes haven’t been taken care of yet.  It’s the inaction and digging in of heels that has me outraged.  The state cannot admit that this is going sideways, and by not admitting there is an issue there are zero chances to fix this.  A month in making a statement that doses were set aside for nursing homes, without acknowledging that there was an issue of why they haven’t been administered and without saying what steps will be taken to protect these residents is basically just dodging the issue.

CVS and Walgreens are giving out vaccine?  Perhaps to elder care facilities, but I called yesterday morning and they could not sign me up because of lack of vaccine.  Same answer from the Veterans Admin.
