Join us for a special program....Let My Torah Go: Women of the Wall (WOW) and the Struggle to Liberate the Kotel, on Wednesday, April 22, 7:30 PM, at Temple B’nai Abraham, 300 E Northfield Rd, Livingston. The guest speaker will be Lesley Sachs, Director of WOW. This program is co-sponsored by Montclair Jewish Workshop, Congregation Shomrei Emunah, Congregation Beth Am, Temple Sholom of West Essex and Temple B’nai Abraham. Free and open to the community! Lesley Sachs, Executive Director of Women of the Wall, was one of the founding members of “Isha L’isha – Haifa’s Feminist Center” and worked for 10 years in the Israel Women’s Network. Lesley served as Executive Director of the Israel Religious Action Center (IRAC) and then as Vice President of the World Union For Progressive Judaism. She is currently working as an Interim Director of “Project Kesher-Israel” and as the director of “Women of the Wall.” Women of the Wall, or Neshot Hakotel נשות הכותל in Hebrew, is a group of Jewish women from around the world who strive to achieve the right, as women, to wear prayer shawls, pray and read from the Torah collectively and out loud at the Western Wall (Kotel) in Jerusalem, Israel. The Western Wall is Judaism’s most sacred holy site and the principal symbol of Jewish peoplehood and sovereignty, and Women of the Wall works to make it a holy site where women can pray freely.
