The South Orange/Maplewood Community Coalition on Race, in partnership with South Orange Public Library, Maplewood Memorial Library and [words] Bookstore, is expanding its Two Towns - One Book community read to include a short story, fiction option called Two Towns - Many Stories. Recitatif by Toni Morrison and How to Date a Brown Girl, Black Girl, White Girl or Halfie by Junot Diaz from his anthology Drown are the two stories selected for adults and The Sandwich Swap by Queen Rania Al Abdullah of Jordan and Kelly Dipucchio is the selection for elementary school readers. The community is asked to read the stories independently, and to then participate in small, facilitated group discussions with fellow residents to share thoughts, insights and questions. The adult discussion groups will meet April 16, 7 PM at [words] Bookstore, 176 Maplewood Avenue in Maplewood and April 30th, 7 PM at South Orange Public Library, 65 Scotland Rd., South Orange. The children’s reading and activities will be held Thursday May 27, 7 PM at Maplewood Memorial Library, 51 Baker St., Maplewood. Please visit http://www.twotowns.org for more information.
