Maplewood Garden Club Presents \"Through the Garden Gates of England\" Regina and Kenneth Carlson have visited more than 300 English gardens, both world-renowned and private gardens rarely open to the public. At the December meeting of the Maplewood Garden Club they will present a talk and photo tour of these beautiful spaces. Regina and Kenneth will describe and illustrate characteristic elements of English gardens, present photographic mini-tours of several famous gardens of various types, and tell about their decades-long experiences exploring the beautiful English countryside. In addition to their many other interests and experiences, the Carlsons are also avid gardeners. The Carlson garden has been included in the U.S. Garden Conservancy Open Days Program several times; on tours for the Reeves-Reed Arboretum, Summit, in 2003, and the Frelinghuysen Arboretum, Morristown, in 2010; and was profiled in the Millburn-Short Hills Magazine in 2011. Their garden and kitchen composting practices, educational efforts, and advocacy for recycling, were recognized by the Summit City Council in 2009 with its Recycling Award. Take the English Garden tour December 3, 7:30 PM at the Maplewood Memorial Library, 51 Baker St., Maplewood, NJ. The meeting is open to the public, admission is free and refreshments (often home made!) are served.
