Pride Month Program The Grass is Gayer OUT in the Suburbs Monday, June 19 7:00 pm Main Library Featuring readings and musings by local writers Peggy Hannis, Doreen C. Jones and Robert Shaffron. The women's a cappella group Olympia's Daughters will provide musical entertainment, singing songs of liberation. Co-sponsored by North Jersey Pride. Refreshments will be served. Free -- and open to everyone! Peggy Hannis is a Nationally Certified Sign Language Interpreter, and has been earning a living as an interpreter for 32 years. As a hobby she has been a singer and performer for more than 20 years. A self proclaimed choir geek, she spends much of her free time running to rehearsals and performances from up in Teaneck, and down to Asbury Park. She has recently began exploring story telling, which she finds far more terrifying than singing to large crowds. She moved to South Orange in 2014 with her two teenage daughters, and is feeling right at home in our diverse and artsy community. Robert Shaffron and his husband John are permitted to remain in their Maplewood residence through the generosity of their two magnificent sons, Benjamin and Jordan. Robert has been, variously, a playwright, an advertising creative director, stock boy, dishwasher, actor/waiter, and is currently a stay-at-home LGBT activist. He also bakes a wicked lemon square. Doreen C. Jones is a freelance writer whose comedic stylings can be found in NY Dogs (written and Illustrated by Violet Lemay, Hot Guys ABZ and Say What, 700 quotes that should never have been said (duo press 2017). While Doreen specializes in the humor genre her offerings on children with special needs are gaining attention. Ms. Jones musings can also be found in Matters Magazine and her daily blog mamasucksblog.wordpress.com.
