November 6, 2012 Urgent Need for Volunteers to Remove Trees from Trails; Hikes Cancelled You know the devastation that has followed in the wake of Hurricane Sandy. It has leveled hundreds of large, stately trees throughout our communities. The Reservation has also been devastated with damage that exceeds the freak snow storm of last October. As a consequence, the trails are virtually impassable and all planned hikes are cancelled. The South Mountain Conservancy is calling for volunteers with chain saws, loppers, and bow saws to help clear trails in the Reservation this Saturday, Nov. 10th at 9:00. Chain saws are particularly needed. The County will eventually clear the roads, but we need to begin opening up the trails. This will probably take months, but we need to make a start. If you cherish the Reservation, come and pitch in. We will meet at the Dog Park off Crest Drive and disperse from there. No children under 15.
