Temple B’nai Abraham is very proud to announce that Rabbi Faith Joy Dantowitz will receive her Honorary Doctor of Divinity, honoris causa, from her alma mater, Hebrew Union College-Jewish Institute of Religion. This honor comes upon her completion of 25 years in the rabbinate. HUC-JIR/NY Graduation ceremony will be held on Thursday, May 3rd at Congregation Emanu-El of the City of New York. Her achievement will be recognized at Shabbat Services at Temple B’nai Abraham on Friday, May 4, at 6:30 PM, located at 300 East Northfield Road, Livingston, entrance on East Cedar Street. All are invited to attend. Rabbi Faith Joy Dantowitz joined the clergy at Temple B’nai Abraham in 2010. She received her B.A.S from the University of Pennsylvania’s Moore School of Electrical Engineering and Applied Science. After ordination at HUC-JIR in 1993, she served as a rabbi at Congregation B’nai Jeshurun in Short Hills, NJ for eleven years. Following that, she was the Regional Director of Admissions and Recruitment at HUC-JIR in NY for six years. She spent nine summers (2003-2011) on Faculty at URJ Camp Harlam in the Poconos. Rabbi Dantowitz was in the 4th Rabbinic Cohort of the Institute for Jewish Spirituality. She is passionate about social justice and was involved in efforts for marriage equality in NJ. Rabbi Dantowitz is a member of the Women’s Rabbinic Network and CCAR. She is involved with Faith in New Jersey and the Do Not Stand Idly By Campaign against Gun Violence. She was selected as an American Jewish World Service (AJWS) Global Justice Rabbinic Fellow (2014-2015) and traveled to Guatemala in 2015. She is currently a JOIN (Jewish Organizing Institute and Network) for Justice Rabbinic Fellow. Rabbi Dantowitz and her husband David are the proud parents of Ezra, Benjamin, Samuel and Daniel.
