South Orange/Maplewood Community Coalition on Race hosts Fourteenth Annual Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day Celebration The Community Coalition on Race will sponsor a twofold celebration of Dr. King’s birthday featuring an interfaith observance and a Volunteer Fair. The service will be co-hosted by St. Joseph’s Roman Catholic Church at 767 Prospect St. in Maplewood and First Baptist Church of South Orange on Monday, January 19 at 2 pm. Joseph Ford, Selma Freedom Rider and current Maplewood resident, is the featured speaker. He is a product of the Civil Rights Movement and has been personally involved in a wide-range of Civil and Human Rights issues for most of his life. Music will be provided by the Greg Bufford jazz ensemble and the Voices in Harmony chorus. An on-premise Volunteer Fair beginning at 3:30 PM will include sign-ups and information from local organizations about volunteering throughout the year, as well as “instant impact†service opportunities.
